AYURVEDA BASICS

The ancient Ayurvedic knowledge of life has been around for thousands of years. The term can literally be  translated from the Sanskrit words "Ayus" - life and "Veda" - knowledge. It is based on holistic thinking and touches on every aspect of life: from conception to death. Humans are viewed as an individual unit consisting of body, mind and soul. Our individuality and individual needs are reflected in diet, behavior and lifestyle as well as in therapy.

One of the most essential basic assumptions of the Ayurvedic world view is the division into 5 elements, the Panchamahabutas, of which the entire universe consists. Both the macrocosm, the planets, the mountains and the animals, as well as the microcosm, ourselves and the components of our body, can always be broken down into these 5 small components: space, air, fire, water and earth.

The main aim of Ayurveda is to maintain the health of the healthy and to cure the disease of the sick. A medicine is defined as follows: A substance that is able to eliminate disease without causing new ones.

Inseparably connected to our surrounding, every individual can be influenced by the outside world and vice versa: the well-being of our society, environment and nature is directly dependent on us. The ayurvedic science brings our individual lives in direct connection with our immediate surroundings as well as the whole universe. It follows a holistic, all-encopassing approach assuming that everything i connected.

DOULA

The term doula has its origins in ancient Greece, in India the same women who support women during birth and post partum are called "Dai".  All over the world there have always been women guiding other women through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period into motherhood. Nevertheless a Doulas role is always of sole complimentary nature to the amazing work and knowledge of that of a midwive.

I dont catch babies, I hold mothers.

- MONA ALKHELEWI, DOULA

As an Ayurveda postpartum doula, I am there for you and will walk the path with you together. WHat that means for you and how I can be the best support for you, will be explored by my indivudeal care and intesive contact. True to the motto: only if the mother is well can the baby be well, it is particularly important to take enough time during the first few weeks to settle into the new life situation.

All in a sudden everything is new for everyone involved: breastfeeding, nights, hormones, changing diapers. Everything changed, and it can shake up your life like an earthquake.

so is the mother.

According to Ayurvedic tradition, the first 40 days represent the next 40 years.

With the right Ayurvedic postpartum diet, traditional remedies and soothing Ayurvedic postpartum massages, you will be able to stay grounded during the postpartum period. When body, mind and soul are well nourished and you are lovingly cared for, you will be able to get enough rest for the recovery process to regain your motherly strength.

PAULA

I became a mother in 2020 and this experience is certainly the most formative, life-changing experience I will ever have. During my Ayurvedic preparation for pregnancy and also during the pregnancy itself, I developed the desire to share my knowledge and experiences with other mothers. And that is exactly what I am doing today. Despite everything, being a mother is of course only one side of me, a side that influences me in every aspect of life every day.

My political science studies taught me to question things, the years in Sweden awoke my desire to lead a life more in touch with nature, through my yoga teacher training I began to fconnect to my own body and found access to spirituality. My many, long journeys were ultimately what paved my way with Ayurveda and opened my eyes to the wonderful diversity of humanity and life.

Integrating Ayurveda into my every day life, for me means understanding why I react the way I do and being able to counteract if necessary. It is a wonderful tool to remind us of what we already know. Take time to listen to your inner voice, there is no greater truth than your gut feeling. Only you know best what is good for you. Because only you are you.
